Brett Long, Electric City Printing - University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Brett Long is a University of North Carolina graduate with a B.A. in Economics.  Since joining CGX as an Associate, Brett has been involved in anything and everything.  He has completed a TSSG Boot Camp, a political print rotation on site with our client The Mack/Crounse Group, and even the first digital peak season at PBM Graphics this past year. He is still on the move and has recently taken a new opportunity at Electric City Printing in Willliamston, SC.

Tell us about your new role as VP of Competition Media and how you like it so far.

Competition Media is everything that an organization needs to put on a successful race.  We largely deal with road races like marathons and our core business is supplying these events with racing bibs.  Electric City has built a tremendous operation and is the main player in producing racing bibs.  I’m working with the team here at Electric City to grow their already large book of business and look to expand on our existing offering.  I love what I’m doing because every day I’m challenged as I learn more about the running industry.  Growing up I’ve always competed in athletics and now I get to incorporate that into my work as well.
What is the most valuable thing CGX and the LDP program has to offer an Associate?

The vast amount of opportunities available to Associates is definitely the most valuable thing.  I’ve been fortunate enough to experience a lot of different opportunities within the CGX network which have taken me all over the country.  Each one required a lot of hard work, but I’ve learned so much both personally and professionally and have helped my career by volunteering and stepping up.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

As president of a CGX company.  I know there is still a lot that I don’t know and still need to learn to be prepared to run a company.  As long as I continue to work hard and learn I have no doubt I’ll get there.  Sales experience is still an area that I’m lacking in but with my transition to my new position I’ll really get a chance to hit sales hard.

What do you think will help you attain that goal?

I think working hard and staying humble will help me the most.  Being fairly new to the printing industry (2 years in) there is still so much that I don’t know. However, as I continue to learn I can help make up for it by working hard.  People can fault you for not knowing something but they can’t fault you for working your hardest.
